Foundation Year

The Foundation Year is open to those who are interested in more deeply knowing themselves and the world through creative arts and Anthroposophy.

Schedule, Tuition, and Application:

Our next Foundation Year will begin in September, 2012 and run through to June 2013. The course will be held on approximately 32 Fridays from 2:00 to 9:15pm and 26 Saturdays from 8:30am to 1:30pm or 2pm

While the tuition figure for the new Foundation Year class has not yet been finalized, it will be no more than $6500.

Curriculum:

The Foundation Year is designed to encourage the creative process in each student through the arts and to bring understanding of the basics of Anthroposophy through lectures and study groups. We emphasize the social by fostering group processes and mutual understanding through active, compassionate listening and speaking. The Foundation Year includes:

1. An introduction to the life and work of Rudolf Steiner
2. Artistic work (eurythmy, singing and music, visual arts, form drawing, clay modeling, movement, speech, storytelling and creative writing)
3. An introduction to basic principles of Anthroposophy
   1. Cosmic and human history
   2. Evolution of Consciousness
   3. Constitution of the human being
   4. Cycles of life in biography
   5. Karma and reincarnation
   6. Esoteric Christology
   7. The healing impulse
   8. Social questions and the 3-fold nature of social life
4. Study of basic texts of Anthroposophy
5. Inner work/meditation
6. Journaling as a way to reflect on one's experience in the Foundation Year
7. Community and Communication:Group Work (biography, social group processes, games etc.)
8. An introduction to child development and Waldorf early childhood and elementary education
9. Nature observation, the sacred year and festivals
10. Three classroom observations (one for early childhood, one for lower grades and one for middle school)
11. Introduction to Biodynamic Agriculture
