In this heartfelt class designed to educate and renew the parents of young children, you can experience a nourishing and informative respite from the daily challenges of parenting. This course provides a supportive conversation and experiential workshop to develop parenting skills and a deep understanding of the lively dynamics of the first seven years in a parent and child’s life together.
The course consists of the following classes:
Awakening Head, Heart and Hand
A time to sample practical and expressive arts including Eurythmy, Singing, Hand Play games, Festival creation, Nature Table exploration, Book Making and more!
Developmental Dynamics with Susanna Reynolds
Here the specific developmental needs of young children are considered to help parents understand how to nurture their children with confidence and kindness. Looking deeper we develop an understanding of the subtle energy forces that surround the child (and the parents) during the first few years of life. As we learn, we gather practical resources to help meet both parents’ and children’s developmental needs. In meeting the child’s true needs, the deeper needs of the parent can be nourished too.
Painting and Arts with Flora McEachern
Here we explore content presented in the Developmental Dynamics class through the medium of color. Participants experience how working with the fluidity of color can strengthen the life forces and guide the growing child. Experience first hand, through guided artistic expression, the qualities so necessary in a healthy child’s life: warmth, equilibrium, and deep rhythmic breathing. Progressively build skills and artistically explore painting in a healing, non-judgmental environment.
Tending the Hearth: The Lost Arts of Home and Health
with Patti Pitcher
Here we investigate the practical arts of homemaking: nourishing, nursing, cleaning, tending and creating comfortable spaces. Experiment with fermentation, food preservation, and how to make nourishing broths. Learn to make simple herbal remedies, teas, compresses and healing baths. Explore how to weave seasonal life into your home in simple ways that enrich family life.
Child Development/Life with Children
with Susanna Reynolds and guests
Here we consider the physiology of childhood and child development in the first years of life through the lens of Anthroposophy and the principles of Waldorf education. We explore how these principles can be supported through an awareness of the daily rhythms of life with children, as well as the activities of work, play, rituals, and storytelling. Participants share their own experience, giving and receiving support in collaboration with each other on the sacred journey of parenting.
